Exercising with Anker's Wireless Soundbuds
Ryan Cordell

Anker Soundbuds next to a phone When Apple announced that its phones would no longer have headphone jacks, I was disappointed. I'd not yet explored the world of wireless headphones and I had no interest in carrying around a dongle every day. I still haven't upgraded my phone since the company made this change, in part for these reasons, but I have since found a pair of affordable, wireless headphones I can recommend for users of any phone, particularly for use while exercising.

Anker's Soundbuds Slim Wireless Headphones are very light; fit well in the ear; are easy to control, even while active; and sound pretty darn good, especially considering their price. The Soundbuds range downward in price from $35.99 to $25.99 when on sale, which seems to be much of the time. The headphones connect to your phone via bluetooth. There is a wire connecting the two earpieces, which goes behind the head and hangs on the back of the neck; were an earbud to fall out, this cord would keep it from landing on the ground. With that said, the Soundbuds have never fallen out of my ears through running or rock climbing, as the tips fit snugly in my ear canals and the additional rubber piece on each side (called an ear hook) fits into the folds of my ear, keeping the tips snugly in place. The set is sweat proof, meaning it can stand up to some moisture (but not underwater). The two Soundbuds are also magnetic, and can be joined, either for storage or to keep them secure while out of your ears, simply by putting their backs together.

The Soundbuds come with a variety of sizes for both the ear tips and ear hooks. My wife has struggled to find any headphones that fit her ears, but the smallest tip/hook combination in the Soundbuds fits her very comfortably. We now both keep a set of Soundbuds in our gym bags. I have even considered getting a second pair to keep in my briefcase as everyday headphones, in part because losing these would be less painful than losing the more expensive sets—including Apple's own earbuds—that I typically carry.

In short, I've been quite pleased with Anker's Soundbuds and recommend them highly. If you struggle with accidentally pulling out the cord to your wired headphones while jogging or lifting weights, the Soundbuds would be a welcome replacement for exercising.

How about you—do you have a favorite pair of wireless headphones for workouts (or other times)? Tell us your favorites in the comments!
